Review:
This is a book I wholly recommend you go into blind. If you can’t go in blind just read the first sentence of the blurb. It’s going to make you think. But I think even if you do decide to read the blurb, it still doesn’t do the journey you’ll go on reading this book justice. It’ll drop a bombshell and then you’ll find yourself unpicking all of these clever layers throughout. It’s utterly stunning.
We’re in a dystopian setting, where a worldwide event changes the course of history forever. Some rejoice, some struggle to grapple with this new reality and some wish they were a part of it.
Big themes here are identity. How we define ourselves and others, how we are conditioned to think, how much of something someone can be. There are so many complexities to identity and more in this book and it was a brilliant, brilliant read because of it.
There’s so many quotes I want to share with you but so many contain tiny spoilers, so here’s one I think sums up the book perfectly with only hinting on its contents:
“I don’t believe there has ever been a more terrible weapon in this world, than the word they”
