Family secrets are uncovered on a trip to Ghana and Sika will never be the same again. It will upend everything she knows and who she is will be drawn into question.

I fell in love with Amuah’s writing in her debut, One for Sorrow, Two for Joy, and it was a pleasure to return to that heartfelt style in Sister of Mine.

The plot surprised me in this one though, this secret we’re alluded to in the blurb isn’t unveiled until much later in the book, far further in than I was expecting. And perhaps I’ve been reading too much fantasy and thrillers but it was refreshing to learn so much of our characters before this upheaval.

I really enjoyed the narrating voice too, and someone with much more of a brain for this can tell me why I’m sure, but there was something different in it and I can’t pinpoint why but it worked brilliantly and marrying currently day plot and the historical lead up.

It’s a story of family, betrayal and identity and I really enjoyed it.
