I Want to Die But I Want to Eat Tteokbokki is a recount of the authors conversations with her physiotherapist and some of her thoughts in between.

It’s raw, honest and in multiple places, really quite emotional too. It absolutely wasn’t what I expected when I picked this up – I remember the hype when it came out but I couldn’t remember what it was about, but that didn’t diminish its impact.

It’s a book that that makes you put it down after every chapter and reflect on what you’ve read, perhaps looking inwardly. It’s one to savour and not rush. Despite its sometimes dark content, it really was a delight to read and I’m glad I finally picked it up.

I really appreciated the extra narratives in this. It felt like after watching their sessions perhaps as a fly on the wall, that the author then turned to talk to the reader and decompress and talk directly to you. That switch up was refreshing rather than enjoying.

This is one that I definitely recommend.
