Bookshop Visits – Afrori Books – Brigton

Next up on our bookshop tour is one of my favourites in the South, today we find ourselves at Afrori Books in Brighton.

Nestled at the top of The Lanes in Brighton, Afrori Books shines through. Established in October 2021 by founder Carolynn (Bookseller of the Year 2023), the shop has grown from strength to strength, moving to it’s current location last Summer.

Afrori is a bookshop focused on Black voices and it’s truly a sight to behold. The bookshop is a celebration of Black authors and it’s a joy to be surrounded by such a great range of books.

The bookshop itself is a great space – we have a huge range of genres as well as Carolyn’s Bookshelf where patrons can pick up a book and read in store as well as blind dates books and an incredible wall of author signatures on the window as you walk in! Check out some of their beautiful displays below (with a photo taken at an evening event I was lucky enough to attend!)

If that wasn’t enough, each year Afrori partners with fellow Brighton bookshop The Feminist Bookshop to host Brighton Book Fair. Held over a week in June, they always have an incredible line up. Last year I was honoured to be a part of the What’s Next panel and I’m excited to attend as a patron this year.

Afrori is one of my favourite bookshops so I hope you’ll be planning a visit soon. And maybe I’ll see you at Brighton Book Fest too – check out the line up here.

Leave me a comment below if this bookshop is on your list to visit!

You can find out more about them here on their website or on their instagram here.
