Bookshop Visit: The Kergold Hatchery Bookshop, Weisdale

Last week I sought out the most northerly bookshops in the UK, the most northerly indie bookshop is the brilliant The Shetlands Bookshop (tap the link to check my blog on that one!), and The Hatchery is the most northerly in the UK and is a beautiful second hand bookshop.

Set against a stunning landscape, this bookshop felt like such a hidden treasure!

The shop itself is filled (and I really do mean filled!) with books. All second hand, some modern and some that very much count as antiques, this is a treasure chest just waiting to be uncovered.

It was such a joy to walk round these well labelled and well organised shelves, there’s sense and order and I loved the feeling of it in here.

I particularly loved the children’s section which reminded me of some of my favourites from way back when and also the fantasy section – books from the 70s and 80s just crying out to be loved. We picked up a beautiful Ursula Le Guin from here and I know we’ll treasure it for some time.

The antique section was stunning as well. We have classics from Crime and Punishment, many a Dickens and poetry collections from Shelley and Keates. Oh to spend an afternoon between their pages!

I think I could have quite happily spent hours in here picking out my favourites or interesting titles and covers!

There’s also beautiful art collections in reception with visiting local artists, what more could you want?

I’d love to know if you’ve visited or plan to, drop me me a comment below!
