Review: The Girl With the Louding Voice – Abi Daré

Overview:

Title: The Girl With the Louding Voice
Author: Abi Daré
Published: October 2020
Genre: Literary
Themes: Loss, Greif, Education

One sentence summary: Adunni just wants to finish her education, but life has never dealt her the fairest hand.

One sentence review: This is beautifully written with distressing but necessary topics, a modern classic.

Review:

All Adunni wants is to learn, she wants to be in school and finish her education, she wants a voice and wants to be heard.

But after her mother dies, her father has other plans on how he’ll keep their home and their family going, much to the disappointment and distress of Adunni.

This is one of those brilliantly written but ultimately incredibly bleak books. Adunni goes through so much hardship and it’s hard to witness through her eyes.

But she’s hopeful and feisty and it’s hard not to root for her. There are characters that are with her and the ones against her are beyond evil. I definitely enjoyed reading this one, I loved the writing and Adunni is certainly memorable.
