Literary fiction is one of my favourite genres and I’ve really enjoyed looking back over what I’ve been enjoying this year to share with you. My favourite literary fictions always hit me hard and make me feel everything and I love them for it.
So let me share some of my favourites so far this year. Just tap on the titles to get more info from Bookshop.org and to support my work.
Overspill – Charlotte Paradise. A book that feels like falling in love slowly and then all at once. Beautiful.
Sunstruck – William Rayfet Hunter. A brilliantly twisty book of class and love.
Good Intentions – Kasim Ali. A book of messy people and great mental health conversations.
A Beautiful Lack of Consequence – Monika Radojevic. A short story collection filled with feminine rage, just stunning.
Dominoes – Phoebe McIntosh. Brilliantly original plot of a couple finding out things they wouldn’t expect before their wedding.
Fundamentally – Nussaibah Younis. Laugh out loud funny, just trust me and pick it up.
Here Again Now – Okechukwu Nzelu. Heartbreakingly story of grief and loss.
Hail Mary – Funmi Fetto. Another short story collection about nine women, searching for their way.
Homegoing – Yaa Gyasi. A modern literary classic, do not miss this one.
Brotherless Night – V. V. Ganesananthan. Incredible historical fiction set around the Sri Lanken civil war.
Behind You is the Sea – Susan Muaddi Darraj. The last short story collection and this time all interconnected stories set between Palestine and America.
Sweetness in the Skin – Ishi Robinson. Heart-breaking but full of hope and some great cake.
Have you planned to pick any of these up? I’d love to know!
