Let’s Talk About Libraries

Have you ever wondered why so many of us talk about visiting libraries and getting yourself a library card? Well you’re in luck. Read on and let’s talk about it.

We’re going to start off strong today:

Libraries are the cornerstones are our society.

They are havens, they are safe places and they are horribly, horribly underfunded.

Libraries are free; they ask absolutely nothing of you, only that you use them. Full of free resources, they are a free place to borrow books, audiobooks, games and so much more. You can use computers and the internet, printers.. the list goes on.

But libraries need you to keep going.

If we want to keep our libraries there then we need to support them. And the easiest way to do that is to sign up for a library card- it’s free! By just borrowing a couple of books from them a year and you’re going to be doing so much good.

Libraries also support authors. Every time you borrow a book or audiobook from a library, the author still gets a portion. You can even help newer authors by requesting their books be in your local library for others to love too.

A minor side note – I only discovered last year that my library had an app for requests and honestly it changed my life. It is now so easy to request books and there’s also a for you section for other recommendations similar to what you’ve borrowed. I love it.

I also read somewhere (it was a meme, I know, I’m sorry) a while ago that libraries need us to borrow their books because they can’t hold them all. I can’t find anything to actually support that but it’s a nice thought to leave you with.

If you haven’t signed up to your local library yet, let this be the year that you do!

If reading more is something that you’re looking at doing this year then should check my reading challenge out here! Read nine books from nine prompts over the first six months of the year and be entered into a draw to win a bundle of bookish goodies.

If you like what you’ve read and would like to access more content, I’d love if you could take a look at my patreon and consider supporting my content on there too. Patreon supports also get monthly lists of new released books!

And don’t forget you can follow me on Instagram for more bookish content too.

Happy reading folks!
