One sentence summary: In a family of time travellers, each member’s travel has certain rules but each finds their own stories within their talent.
One sentence review: A beautiful book of love and loss that has stayed with me throughout the years, a must read.
Review:
Tommy and Eva inherited a special gift from their parents, the gift of time travel. Each child’s gift works in a slightly different way – Tommy can visit London in a particular timeframe whereas Eva can visit her relatives across the globe.
Each gift sends the child on a different path through life and their journeys are nothing short of spectacular – think visiting past celebrities, utter heartbreak and the beauty finding yourself.
This book is like a tonic; it’s delicate and quaint and so beautifully written. It’s the kind of book you want to savour and enjoy. I adored the narrative, the different timelines and it has some of the most precious characters I’ve read. Love and family are big themes in this book. So many of our characters show this in so many ways, bringing about a beautiful mix.
Here’s some of my favourite quotes that should really cinch the deal if you’re still not convinced:
“Both of them thought love was nothing but devotion.”
“Some people are a car crash waiting to happen, and sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop them”
“Some things are meant to be. We just have to learn to live with it.”
