Edinburgh is a magical place in my eyes – I love the city, the beautiful cobbled streets, the friendliness of Scots, I’d go yearly if I could. It’s also a particularly wonderful place for bookshops!
Here’s a list of my favourites (so far!) that I’ve had the chance to visit. They’re all new bookshops and I’m hoping that the next time I go I can check out the secondhand ones too.
Argonauts – A little out of the way but absolutely worth the trip on the tram. I loved how light and airy Argonauts felt and it has a lovely café too. Brilliant Palestinian voices display as well as local authors too.
Booklovers Bookshop – Edinburgh’s newest bookshop and the only romance only bookshop in the UK. A great selection for lovers of the genre and I really appreciated the split of genres (romantasy, dark, sports, YA etc).
Golden Hare – A cosy and hidden away bookshop that is definitely worth a visit. Complete with a cosy fire and brilliant children’s section, it felt so comforting browsing in this one.
Lighthouse Books – The ultimate bookshop for allyship. Brilliant displays of Palestine authors and lots of brilliant political literature. I could have spent hours in here!
Rare Birds – The bookshop that only stocks women authors and I just love it in here. They have beautiful table displays with brilliant recs and even book advent calendars (each door has a description of a book behind it and then you choose three you like to have in book form!).
Toppings Edinburgh – If living out your fantasy as Belle on a sliding bookshop ladder is on your list of things to do, then Toppings is the place to be. It’s also huge! Lots to see and honestly I just got pretty overwhelmed in there. Beautiful building though!
Typewronger – Under street level and absolutely not one to be missed I loved the feel of this bookshop and they had brilliant queer representation all through the shop. I also got a mini origami frog with my purchase! Big of fan of this one.
I’d love to know if you’re planning a trip, let me know which ones make your list!
