Non-Fictions I’ll Re-Read in 2024

Over the past few years I’ve read some incredible non-fiction books that have really shaped the way I think and opened my eyes to new information. I’m also of the opinion that you will never stop learning if you don’t want to, so 2024 is going to be the year I start to re-read some of my favourite and most influential non-fictions.

Feminism Interrupted – Lola Olufemi. A brilliant and intersectional interruption on white feminism. This one certainly packs a punch and I’m exciting to re-visit it this year.

All About Love – Bell Hooks. An author that I hope needs no introduction. This is such a brilliant book about so many types of love; not just romantic, but also the companionship of friendship and spiritual relationships too. A tonic of a book. It’s one I’ll always turn to for guidance.

We Have Always Been Here – Samra Habib. One of the first memoirs I read and really loved. Habib’s writing has such a beautiful storytelling quality to it, it’s almost poetic. If you loved How to Say Babylon by Safia Sinclair last year then I’d also recommend this one.

Braiding Sweetgrass – Robin Wall Kimmerer. There are elements of this book I still recall years after originally reading it and I can’t wait to come back to it. Braiding Sweetgrass blends Indigenous Wisdom with scientific knowledge and is breath-taking. An absolute must read for all.

Consumed – Aja Barber. The book that totally overhauled my spending habits on clothes and opened my eyes to the horrors of fast fashion. I obviously recommend all the books on this but if there’s one you must ready this year, make it this one. My life was changed and I know yours will be too. While I’m here, I’d also recommend Aja’s Patreon. It feels like an extension of the book and it’s continuously informative.

Hood Feminism – Mikki Kendall. To end on a high, this is probably one of the first books I read on feminism and wow what a book to start with. If you want to start understanding intersectionality then this is a great place to begin.

I’d love to know which of these you’ve enjoyed or if you choose to read one from the list, let me know and leave a comment below!
